One of the countless unhealthy byproducts of living with chronic pain from numerous areas of severe damage that are easily flared by any activity, is that a person becomes sedentary by default.
A sedentary lifestyle is one of little to no daily activity which means there is also no regular exercise either; and worse yet, emotional eating.
This an extremely unhealthy lifestyle that commonly leads to obesity; and that unfortunate state, long term, leads to a whole host of new and worse health conditions such as heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, etc...
Prior to my injuries, I never had anything but normal blood labs unless I was ill.
I have seen the ravages of diabetes first hand.
Around 1979 my Grandpap Kelly's diabetes was so poorly managed that his foot got gangrene and had to be amputated, which then led to another surgery when they decided to cut his leg off up to the knee.
That resulted in a post-surgical pulmonary embolism that killed him. Had he never had diabetes, or at least, had he managed it far better, he never would have lost his foot, lower leg and then life.
I was a little girl when he died so I don't know what was known about diabetes, diet and exercise back then. However, today?
Entirely different story. A lack of knowledge can't be claimed if you own a device with internet access.
Yes, we are all going to die, that is a fact.
However, today we know beyond the shadow of a doubt that whether we speed it up or slow it down
is entirely up to us based upon the choices we make when it comes to what we put in our pieholes!
Grandpap Kelly was never obese. He was a big strong physically active, stern and imposing man who still tended an enormous garden and mowed his grass well into his 70's.
He was always loving to me though and we shared a fondness for ice cream and black jelly beans and he even let me sneak sips of his Manischewitz Blackberry Wine when we played checkers; a game in which he showed no mercy and never let me win!
Now that I am where I'm at thanks to my weight and glucose levels, whether I eat even 2 mini candy bars or a scoop of potato salad I get the tingling pain of nerve damage in my right foot and it is very uncomfortable. I can't begin to imagine the pain he suffered with a gangrened foot black as night.* (See bottom right.)
Additionally, I possess superior clinical experience working for eye surgeons, first as an Ophthalmic Medical Technician and later as a Clinical Supervisor. I have seen many go blind due to the irreversible damage caused by diabetic neuropathy.
Vital Health Note: You cannot reverse damage done to the retinas; but if you get your diabetes under control you can prevent further damage.
Thus, I am patently well aware that I need to do everything within my power to not develop it, as should everyone.
One of my natural efforts to decrease my glucose lab number was to get on Chromium Picolinate.
It's a supplement that I took many years ago to increase energy but I resumed it now for diabetes prevention.
I take two Puritan's Pride brand of 500mcg (microgram)
one time daily along with Puritan's Pride Alpha Lipoic Acid 600mg and one Puritan's Pride CoQ-10 120mg.

Chromium is a mineral. It is called an "essential trace element" because very small amounts of chromium are necessary for human health. There are two forms of chromium: trivalent chromium and hexavalent chromium. The first is found in foods and supplements and is safe for humans. The second is a known toxin that can cause skin problems and lung cancer.
Chromium is used for improving blood sugar control in people with prediabetes, type 1 and type 2 diabetes, and high blood sugar due to taking steroids and HIV treatments.
It is also used for depression, Turner's syndrome, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), lowering "bad" cholesterol, raising "good" cholesterol in people taking heartmedications called beta blockers, metabolic syndrome, heart attack, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and binge eating disorder.
Some people try chromium for body conditioning including weight loss, increasing muscle, and decreasing body fat. Chromium is also used to improve athletic performance, to increase energy, and to prevent age-related mental decline.

Cinnamon
Cinnamon is known to lower blood sugar. Thus, I also began putting cinnamon on all natural applesauce, liberally and eating this a few days a week. I also sprinkle it in my one cup of morning coffee.
Natural applesauce is sugar free and will seem very bitter and tart at first, but I promise the cinnamon makes it palatable; and once you get used to it, you will find applesauce with sugar, too sweet!
After eating natural applesauce with cinnamon
and taking chromium picolinate as noted above
for just 2 months, my Glucose level dropped to 91!
Although still not as low as it was prior to chronic pain and
obesity, it is in the normal range and most importantly,
it is improvement gained from NATURAL efforts!
Anytime you can drop your lab numbers by 10%,
whether bad cholesterol, glucose,
or even, your weight, that is great progress!
When you can do it through diet modification
and natural measures,
that is EXCEPTIONAL progress!
I recently found Organic Cinnamon at Sam's Club by Daily Chef.
Let me tell you, the difference in taste between organic and non is immeasurable!
It is more expensive in that you pay about the same amount but only get half as much, but it is worth it for those who appreciate such differences.
Please note: When I lowered my glucose as referenced above, it was NOT with organic cinnamon. Cinnamon can also be taken via supplement form and I buy the Puritan's Pride CoQ10 with Cinnamon.

If you are not living your best quality of life due to chronic pain and/or other chronic health conditions like poorly managed diabetes, it is ultimately UP TO YOU to make the choices that will get you back 2 good!
I got myself back 2 good by the grace of God and listening to my God-given, Holy Spirit driven instincts.
NOT ONE DOCTOR ever advised me or told me any of what I have been blessed by God to figure out that has allowed me to vastly reduce and even eliminate 3 of the 10 prescription drugs I had prior to going herbal in early 2012.
As a matter of fact, I began to have doctors be so impressed that I appear as well as I do when I have all the damage and pain issues that I do, ask me what each herb and supplement does?
Thus, I put together an Excel spreadsheet for my dr. visits that lists every supplement I take, its dose, and WHY so that I may educate and motivate them to begin to do their own research and realize that I am not the only person capable of getting off of Rx's and using the ones I still have to take, as the exception and not the rule, and that they would be doing ALL of their patients a world of good if they made this effort!

Then I go online and I read about the herb or supplement on WebMD, Mayo Clinic or some other dr. run site, as well as Dr. Mercola's, and then I read about it on 3 non-doc run sites so that I know I have fair, objective, balanced opinions.
I also pay attention to the number of people in studies.
I have no real respect for studies done with less than a few hundred people; and the more the better just as the fewer the number of participants, the less credibility it has to me.
You also need to pay attention to WHO is doing the study because far too often, people without integrity will say anything just to make money.
Often, those who scream the loudest against natural health options are paid the most by multi-billion dollar pharmaceutical companies to do so because they know that those of us who no longer get maintenance Rx's filled every 90 days are taking money out of their pockets; and they are not happy about that, at all.
They don't have your best health in mind; only their bottom line.
Always utilize facts and common sense
when making any health decisions.
I am on a beta blocker for my Hypertension (high blood pressure). It is the ONE Rx I take every night faithfully.
I do this because I know that its side effects of depression and lethargy are not as awful as having a heart attack would be.
Which is why my cardio suggested that I take it at bedtime,
it actually helps me to fall asleep.
To wrap it up, I am not anti-Rx's or Western medicine
when absolutely necessary
such as emergent or life-threatening situations.
I am simply anti not giving natural efforts a try first
whenever feasible.
I can't tell anyone what to do when it comes to health, but I do hope to make people think about their best health and motivate them to get it; and being on multiple pain management pills will NEVER give anyone their best health!

Do an online search of "Photos of gangrene foot due to diabetes" and if that isn't incentive to make you eat right and start a healthy dr. appoved walking routine to well-manage or reverse your diabetes, then your spiritual health is even worse off than your physical health. READ THE BIBLE TO HEAL!
If you have two healthy feet to walk on, GET UP AND GET OUT!
Try to walk for at least 30 minutes a day.
If you have to build up to it, then do so.
Start out with just 5 minutes a day, then when that no longer challenges you, go up to 10 minutes, and when that no longer challenges you, go up to 15 minutes, so on and so forth.
Prior to injuries, I used to power walk 5 miles a day in 50 minutes, five to six days a week. I loved it! I felt so good from the endorphins it released! And health wise?
I was actually able to STOP taking my blood pressure medicine entirely!
Considering the lethargy and depression side effects of beta blockers, that was a HUGE HEALTH BLESSING!
