The 4 Health Victories of Bromelain 

When I began my natural pain management path in early 2012, I was fortunate to learn about Bromelain. 

Bromelain is an all natural digestive enzyme, found in fresh pineapple that potentiates (increases) the effects of what you take it with.

What that means is that when it is taken with a natural anti-inflammatory such as Turmeric, it allows the body to better absorb it and thus, yields better results for you! 

To put it another way: peanut butter is good, chocolate is good, but together?  They are awesome!

I know this to be true because when I bought a bottle of Turmeric that was double my normal dose (720mg vs. 300mg) but it didn't have Bromelain, it was NOT as effective as the lower dose of Turmeric was when I took it with Bromelain!  

That speaks volumes about what a difference taking Bromelain means for maximizing the benefits of what you take it with to reduce (chronic) pain! 

Though I had been off of Rx's as the rule for managing my pain since going herbal in early 2012, I have DDD (degenerative disc disease) and as a result of one degrading badly in September 2014, I dealt with breaktakingly excruciating pain for 8 solid months.  (Even without movement)

Thus, I had to resume taking my prescription anti-inflammatory Meloxicam 15mg (generic for brand name, Mobic) and my pain pill Nucynta 50mg, (no generic) to assist in managing my pain.  (You can read about them under my Rx pages.) 

In my vast 11 years of pain patient experience, these two pills are the absolute best prescription combination for my Western pain management needs. 

Though I wholeheartedly support natural endeavors first and foremost whenever possible, I am not anti-prescriptions or other Western medicine options, when necessary for a person to enjoy their best quality of life. Because if I've learned anything about successful pain management it is just Western medicine or just holistic efforts, it is about everything a person can do!

 

After taking multiple Rx's for over 6 years,

I had absolutely no quality of life,

thanks to their numerous, hideous,

 systemic side effects. 

Some of which, gave me new health issues.

 

Solving one health problem

only to develop six* others

is the antithesis of good health!

*Chronic constipation which led to IBS and bouts of Diverticulitis, Obesity, Elevated Cholesterol, Pre-Diabetes and Cognitive Deficits.

 

The bottom line is that you, the chronic pain person, the depressed person, the anxiety ridden person, the insomniac, need to be comfortable with YOUR pain management plan so that you have the most peace of mind to enjoy your best quality of life.  

Please note that despite returning to using these Rx's, I still take my Turmeric and Bromelain supplement upon waking and 12 hours later AND with my pain pill.

At some point, it hit me

that if Bromelain allows

for better absorption

of Turmeric, then it would

have to follow that taking it

with my Rx's

would likely benefit

my pain relief goals. 

 

 Thus, I bought a Bromelain only supplement in 2,000 GDU (gelatin digesting units).

FAR MORE EFFECTIVELY!

WHAT A VICTORY! 

Health Victory #1!

 

What this means is that PRIOR to going herbal, I used to have to take 3 pain pills a day as the rule during severe pain flare ups.

It's not that I still don't have that kind of severe pain; it is that thanks to the Bromelain allowing for MAXIMUM ABSORPTION I get longer lasting pain relieving benefits from each pain pill! As a result, I'm able to get by on an average of 2 pain pills per day vs. the 3 it was for the first six years before going herbal!

Cutting down on

ANY medication,

let alone pain pills,

by 1/3

IS A HUGE VICTORY

FOR PAIN PEOPLE! 

 

That's a 1/3 reduction in side effects and long term damage potential too!

Plus, I have developed a high pain tolerance* and I suck up a lot of pain in the name of preventing other inevitable health ills that occur from taking long term prescription drugs because even if I don't have obvious side effects while on them, it does not mean destruction to my systems is not occurring.

Since I take 400mg of Holy Basil upon waking, WITH a Turmeric & Bromelain (combination) supplement, I find myself still in good mental/emotional spirits despite this severe pain!

  This was not the case

before I went herbal!

 

Having a positive mental

and emotional state

despite severe pain,

is also a huge victory

for chronic pain people!

 

I recently learned that the mental/emotional roller coaster ride from hell that pain pills, muscle relaxers and anti-anxiety meds cause actually has a medical term for it. 

It is "emotional lability".

I used to have chronic stomach upset thanks to being on anti-inflammatories daily for years. It felt like someone took a cheese grater to it.

 Bromelain also aided in my stomach being less sensitive from my anti-inflammatory! 

Another huge victory!

Last and far from least, when I was first put on Nucynta 50mg in 2011, I got a bottle of 90.  I don't remember if it was after just one bottle or two, regardless, the 50mg were quickly no longer strong enough; and I had to be bumped up to the 75mg dose. 

 

This is a normal (and destructive) health situation

for chronic pain people as relates to our meds;

and one of the MANY reasons that I don't understand why

some people fear going herbal

when there is so much more to lose by staying on

ever increasing doses of pain pills. 

 

Thanks to my herbs, despite being

on Nucynta 50mg again daily,

the quick tolerance building and dosage

increases, have not even been an issue! 

 

This is yet ANOTHER HUGE VICTORY

for chronic pain people!

If you want to live your best quality of life,

you need to safely and successfully

reduce and eliminate

every pain pill from your daily routine,

that you can.  (Talk to your dr. and pharmacist.)

Unless you have an allergy to pineapple, it is likely safe for you to try.  However, it's always wise to double check with your dr. and/or pharmacist before starting a new supplement; especially if you are on prescriptions, to ensure that there are no contraindications.

 Studies Schmudies

"There's no long term studies on herbs and the potential dangers are unknown." 

Yes, that is true to a degree. The degree being that there are either no or little studies. 

But the bigger truth is that herbs have been around and in use for both preventive health and post-condition issues, for thousands of years, which is undeniable empirical evidence. 

Empirical evidence is a source of knowledge which is learned through observation and experience.


What prescription drug has that kind of time under its belt?  

Ahhhh, NONE!

 

Know what else is indisputably true? 

 

THE KNOWN DANGERS OF BEING ON PAIN PILLS LONG TERM, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO ADDICTION, ORGAN FAILURE, DISEASES AND DEATH! 

 

Thus, when these herbs have been around for thousands of years, taken by millions, potentially billions, around the globe, don't you think we'd know by now if there was a reason not to take them???

Given what we do know about Rx's side effects and long term damage(s), how can you think trying herbs isn't smart? 

I am not saying that everyone can take everything I have and not have an issue.  I don't know that and I don't claim to.

(If I were omniscient, I'd have already won the lottery and my personal assistant would be typing this, not me...)

Another truth:

Doctors do not know in advance who will have a serious to deadly problem with an Rx or they would not put that person on them. 

By the time it is realized, it is often too late to reverse the damage or save a life. 

If you are willing to roll those dice, why not ask your doc and pharmacist about the herbs discussed on Spinal Trap as regards your specific meds to see if you can safely try them?

If they don't know about herbs, find professionals who do. 

Don't let your best quality of life be denied based upon a lack of knowledge that can easily be found somewhere if you care to make the effort.

I am sharing what has been multiple, immeasurable victories and blessings in getting myself back 2 good thanks to herbs; hoping that I inspire millions to make prudent choices for themselves that result in a better quality of life that gets them, back 2 good in mind, body and spirit.

You can

make excuses

or you can

make progress;
