Did you know that 1 in 4* people will be disabled for 90 days or longer,
before their 65th birthday?
Do what you can to not become a statistic and/or make someone else one!
At work, look out for debris on the floor that can make you and others slip, trip or fall!
Employers: I have seen slip prevention mats so worn down that they actually became a slip and fall hazard! The sheer stupidity in that, often a result of CHEAPNESS, is as appalling as it is, unacceptable.
Cost of a new mat? Negligible compared to the cost of one workman's comp claim!
Also, if you expect/require staff to do any lifting, buy back braces in every size to reduce/eliminate industrial injuries.
Teach your staff to lift with their legs, not their backs.
Teach your staff that pushing is easier on the spine than pulling.
Buy the appropriate assistive devices such as carts with wheels, hand trucks, ramps, and whatever else is needed to reduce and eliminate PREVENTABLE LIFE RUINING INJURIES AND DEATHS.
Staff & Everyone: If you see a potential hazard, stand near it and direct others away, and ask someone to call the appropriate party to have it moved/removed.
DON'T assume that someone else will handle! Poem below sums it up!
Be proactive to prevent injuries
vs. reactive once they happen.
Don't hurt yourself by attempting to move something which may require more than one person and/or assistive equipment.
Be on the lookout at grocery stores too.
I often see pieces of plastic on the floors that are slip hazards and I use my foot to shove them under the bottom shelf since bending over hurts my low back.
I also see spills on the floor of milk, yogurt and other food items that can cause slips and falls. I get out my phone and call the store and tell them to send someone to clean it up before someone does just that. I also stand and wait for that person to arrive so I can point it out to people to help them avoid a slip and fall.
If you see something on the road that can cause accidents, like a giant palm tree in a burlap sac that covers half of each lane on a two lane road, call 911 and report it.
Ditto drivers weaving in and out of traffic and/or road raging.
Both are true examples of mine. There is rarely anything I adivse others to do, that I don't already practice.
DON'T DRIVE
DISTRACTED, DRUNK, DRUGGED OR DROWSY!
“The Responsibility Poem”
by Charles Osgood
There was a most important job that needed to be done,
And no reason not to do it, there was absolutely none.
But in vital matters such as this, the thing you have to ask
Is who exactly will it be who’ll carry out the task?
Anybody could have told you that Everybody knew that this was something Somebody would surely have to do.
Nobody was unwilling; Anybody had the ability.
But Nobody believed that it was their responsibility.
It seemed to be a job that Anybody could have done,
If Anybody thought he was supposed to be the one.
But since Everybody recognized that Anybody could,
Everybody took for granted that Somebody would.
But Nobody told Anybody that we are aware of,
That he would be in charge of seeing it was taken care of.
And Nobody took it on himself to follow through,
And do what Everybody thought that Somebody would do.
When what Everybody needed so did not get done at all,
Everybody was complaining that Somebody dropped the ball. Anybody then could see it was an awful crying shame,
And Everybody looked around for Somebody to blame.
Somebody should have done the job and Everybody should have, but in the end Nobody did what Anybody could have.
I hope after reading this, that the next time you see something that could cause injury/death,
THAT YOU DO SOMETHING!
Equally motivating and thought provoking is this Matthew West song, aptly named, "Do Something"

Okay, so although I am not a fan of statistics for reasons stated on my "Contact Grace" page, I shall be using them as applicable.
Please know that statistics vary by source and time; thus, I make no claims that these are the most current ones, just ones which I believe to be reliable.
For those of you who appreciate stats, here you go:

Scott Vance,
a Humana Insurance
Agent in Austin, Texas.
For all of your insurance needs from Medicare to dental, life, cancer plans and more:
Call Scott at 512-496-3205 (Cell) or at 800-967-2971 (Office)
I know Scott very well and have known him for over a decade now. I also know that when he talks to new or prospective clients, if they are already on the best plan for their specific needs, he has the integrity to tell them so vs. switching them to one of his plans just to make money like so many agents lacking integrity, do.
Insurance is very confusing and the older someone is, the more easily they can be confused by the numerous options available.
If you need an agent that you can trust to have YOUR best interests at heart, call Scott Vance.
Please note that he is licensed in Texas and thus, can only answer questions about policies for those insured in Texas.
Another Medical
Bill Tip!
This thought provoking tip also provided by Scott Vance:
"The bigger the brick, the bigger the bill."
Meaning that the bigger the medical office and/or facility at which you are see and treated, the higher their overhead, thus, the bigger your bill is likely to be.
