5 Ways to Beat Insomnia Naturally!
To beat insomnia, one must first realize that it is not the primary problem, but a sedondary response to stress and/or chronic pain. I.E. Cause and effect Meaning that you do not sleep well because you do not sleep well, but because something is going on in your life that causes you great stress that results in you not sleeping well.
For me, my anxiety over my spinal injuries caused me to have incessant "thought tornadoes" that were the primary cause of my body's secondary response of insomnia. (Pain of course also causes insomnia, more about that shortly.)
Thus, this page is going to address thought tornadoes with 5 simple and highly effective solutions for beating them naturally to both fall asleep and stay asleep successfully!

First and foremost, if you are a Christian who has never read the Bible, please do because it is life transforming in giving one peace. Until I finally read the Bible in 2015, I never really gave much regular thought to Satan. But this Bible verse drove home the need to:
John 10:10 – (Jesus speaking)
“The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give life in all its fullness.”
I finally realized that anxiety and its primary symptom of senseless, quality of life depleting thought tornadoes come from Satan because he wants you to be sleepless and miserable to not function well.
Chronic insomnia does not just leave one cranky and more likely to snap wrongfully at home and work, but sets a person up to have slower reactions when driving, which increases accident potential and insomnia can cause a host of other health issues.
Thus, I am grateful to have to have learned to follow this Bible verse to rid myself of thought tornadoes:
Jude 1:9
But even Michael, one of the mightiest of the angels, did not dare accuse Satan of blasphemy, but simply said,
“The Lord rebuke you.”
Satan does not just come to steal your peace of mind when you lie down either, he is there in the daytime as well so each and every time you begin to have negative thoughts, fearful thoughts, self-doubt, etc...you simply need to say "The Lord rebuke you" and he MUST flee as promised in this next verse:

Holy Basil is a gift from God that allowed me to realize on DAY ONE how effective it is at managing anxiety/depression and their inherent stress naturally! It is low-cost and to be taken upon waking on an empty stomach.

Valerian Stress Complex
I can't even begin to tell you how much I value this combination supplement from Swanson's! It contains Valerian, Holy Basil and Rhodiola. This is why I don't need to take a second Holy Basil only supplement, because I get it every night at 7pm when I take this complex.

Melatonin
As with all solutions, it may take more than one effort for you to find success. Such was the case with melatonin and me. I bought a 3mg supplement that is not enough to let me sleep soundly all night.
However, I also have gotten fat due to my forced sedentary life so if you are petite, that dose may be enough for you.
I then bought Melatonin in a 10mg dose; and Swanson's "Dual Release" that was also just 3mg total but designed to give 1.5mg right away and the other 1.5mg throughout the night.
This dual release 3mg dosing works much better for me.
The 10mg dose also does the job but I find it can leave me feeling fuzzy headed upon waking. I always take my Valerian Stress Complex every night and the melatonin in addition to it.
If you do not suffer insomnia due to chronic pain challenges, then I would try the Valerian first without any melatonin, for two weeks to give it a fair chance to see what it can do on its own.
Just as you never want to take unnecessary prescription drugs, you also do not want to consume unnecessary herbs and supplements.
If after two weeks, you find improvement but not enough, then add melatonin, if safe for you, to your routine. However, if you are working and have to drive in the mornings and can't afford to be fuzzy headed, I highly recommend that you begin the melatonin Friday night or whatever night allows you to sleep in without having to get up to an alarm clock.
IMPORTANT NOTE
Please never start more
than 1 herb or supplement at a time
so that if you do have a reaction,
you will know what to discontinue.
My rule of thumb is to allow two full weeks between
starting new ones because it has never taken more than that amount of time for an herb (or an Rx for that matter),
to show results.
My exception to this rule is if you opt to start Turmeric and Bromelain that are not in the same supplement,
then you do need to start them simultaneously,
because they are known to work synergistically
(increase each other's efficacy).
This applies to other herb combinations too,
such as Donq Quai and Siberian Ginseng or
Magnesium and Cranberry Fruit.
Though I still live with chronic pain due to spinal cord, multiple disc damage, severe spinal arthritis, shoulder damage, etc., now that I have my anxiety/depression so well-managed thanks to God, His herbs and Niall music with guided meditation, I sleep far better and with LESS prescription drug usage!
ANY reduction in Rx's is a health victory!
Speaking of which, it is thanks to God's Holy Spirit leading me to research natural anti-inflammatories in early 2012 after breaking my foot in two places; and by default, that fall jacked up all of my spinal and shoulder pain, that I was led to learning about Turmeric and Bromelain.
